SUSTAINABILITY AT THE FAIR IN THE SQUARE
Fair in the Square are committed to doing all we can to preserve the natural resources around us. As such, we have a commitment to reduce carbon emissions as a result of our activity.
Our target is simple – we aim to significantly reduce our emissions by 2030.
To achieve this, we will collect some anonymous data to establish baselines in relation to Transport, Energy and Waste with a view to setting targets for reduction in future years.
We are asking all our suppliers and attendees to be mindful of their carbon footprint when attending this event and join us in our shared goal and commitment to the planet.
Here are some results from based on survey data collected in 2024
81% of stall holders, 59% of food operators and 89% of attendees live within 3 miles of the Fair.
Of the attendees who responded to our questionnaire, 24% had travelled to the Fair by public transport, 51% by foot, 24% by car and 1% on bicycle.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
The main contributors to increasing our carbon footprint and how you can easily support are:
TRANSPORT - Avoid driving to the event – use public transport or cycle. Or better still, walk!
ENERGY – We are encouraging the use of more efficient, low emission or sustainable fuel generators by our suppliers.
WASTE – Use the correct disposal for your rubbish; Bring your own reusable shopping bag for those amazing purchases from our lovely stalls! Avoid all single use plastics throughout the Fair – reusable cups are preferable.
WATER STATIONS: On the day we will provide water stations where you can refill your own reusable containers. There will be a map that shows where they are located. Local cafes, pubs and restaurants have agreed that you can refill water bottles on request on the day.
